Republicans Terrified of Al Gore?
By Lowell | May 29, 2007
Are Republicans terrified of Al Gore? If the level of criticism directed at him by David Brooks and others is any indication, they most certainly are. Here are some thoughts on this subject from the progressive blogosphere:
*”Upper West” on Daily Kos asks, “Gore was right on the war, the environment, the deficit. What were you right on, Brooks?”
*On Huffington Post, Benjamin R. Barber deconstructs David Brooks’ argument, such as it is. Barber writes, “David Brooks (remember he’s the ‘moderate’ conservative!) pillories Gore for being a ‘Vulcan Utopian,’ implicitly contrasting an icy and inhuman ‘Mr. Spock’ with the down-to-earth and all-too-human President Bush cum Captain Kirk.” Ha.
*Uggabugga asks whether this is “David Brooks’ most inane column ever.”
*According to Liberal Values, “David Brooks writes a negative column on Al Gore’s recent book, The Assault on Reason (which I reviewed here) and in the process shows how devoid of reason much of the right wing has become.”
*Talk Left calls Brooks’ column “the early winner for the most ironic column of the year.”
