Dems “Back Down” to Bush on Iraq? Or Not?
By Lowell | May 3, 2007
The progressive blogosphere is abuzz over a Washington Post headline that “Democrats Back Down On Iraq Timetable.”
*FireDogLake says, “It is well within reason to suspect that the Post, like the Washington Times, have an agenda in portraying Democrats as weak, divided and in dissaray, and that there are many incentives offered to reporters willing to do just that.”
*Greg Sargent at Talking Points Memo reports that “the offices of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are denying a Washington Post story today saying that Congressional Democrats have backed down to the White House by offering to remove Iraq withdrawal language from the now-vetoed Iraq bill.”
*Daily Kos’ “mcjoan” points out:
At least half of the battle in politics is message control, and the leadership has apparently not gotten that beaten into the heads of staff and other Members. Who is this coming from and who can make them shut the hell up?
*Oliver Willis writes that “Even in the face of political success and with the masses on its side, too often the Democratic party still acts as if their heart isn’t in it, and I think that’s a shame.”
