Reaction to Virginia Tech Tragedy
By Lowell | April 16, 2007
According to AP, the shootings at Virginia Tech today represented the “deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history.” Here’s some reaction from the progressive blogosphere:
*AmericaBlog writes:
But hey, don’t expect the gun control groups to do anything about it. They, like far too many progressive groups, have simply gone away over the past six years. Pathetic.
*Booman Tribune asks White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino:
Isn’t it just a wee bit inappropriate to insert the 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms in the same breath as your statement about the President’s reaction to this horrible event? Is that really the best time to openly kowtow to the NRA and the gun lobby?
*”ignatz1138″ at Daily Kos is furious with Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit for “try[ing] to score a cheap political point about gun control.” The diarist continues:
Now, for those who may not know, Blacksburg sits in the Appalachian Mountains, prime hunting country. I wonder, Glenn… do you mind if I call you Glenn? I didn’t think so. Glen[n], I wonder, did you stop for a second and think that maybe, just maybe, this rural town, up in the mountains, just three hours from the capitol of the Confederacy is thick with gun owners? Because it is. And it made not one lick of difference.
*Not Larry Sabato, Raising Kaine, and other Virginia blogs cover the story.

It’s disconcerting how the President’s spokesperson could express condolences to the shooting victims and defend the 2d Amendment practically in the same breath. Why must every statement from the White House seem so myopic and defensive on *every* single issue? What’s to hide? We already know the emperor has no clothes.
