Gonzales To Testify Tuesday with Job on the Line
By Lowell | April 16, 2007
Attorney General Alberto “Waterboard” Gonzales says he has “nothing to hide.” Unfortunately for Gonzales, the evidence that keeps coming out contradicts that claim, actually making it seem like he has MORE to hide, not less. Here’s some commentary from the progressive blogosphere, as Gonzales prepares to testify tomorrow with his job on the line:
*Matthew Yglesias says “there’s so much circumstantial evidence that there was such a campaign and so much evidence of a coverup by the White House and so much evidence of people lying to congress in their testimony it’s very hard to see how Gonzalez can offer a ‘measured apology for his mistakes in the dismissal of eight United States attorneys.’”
*Firedoglake analyzes that “[t]he timeline is problematic” with regard to “that the US Attorney for Wisconsin, Steven Biskupic, was originally on the list of USAs to be purged, probably at Karl Rove’s personal behest.” The problem, Firedoglake writes, is that “Biskupic was actually placed on the purge list four months after Georgia Thompson was wrongly convicted.”
*Daily Kos has more on Sen. Pete Domenici’s role in the attorney firiings, and concludes, “The politicization of the Justice Department went all the way to the top.”
*AmericaBlog asks whether President Bush made the decision to fire David Iglesias, giving a major hat tip to Josh Marshall, given that “Josh and his crew at TPM broke the U.S. Attorneys scandal.”
Stay tuned for Alberto Gonzales’ testimony tomorrow. It should be highly enlightening. Or not. ![]()
