The Don Imus Controversy

By Lowell | April 12, 2007

How’s the Don Imus controversy playing on the progressive blogs?

*Pam’s House Blend says that the next question is “what will CBS radio do” and points out that “[t]here wasn’t a lot of soul searching going on in the minds of” Republicans like Fred Barnes, “John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.”

*Down With Tyranny says that “Like Bush, Giuliani and McCain are down with Imus.” As for the Democrats, Obama is “down on Imus,” Hillary Clinton “said she’d never go on the show again,” and John Edwards is “all about kiss and make-up.”

*Atrios writes about “a pretty quick creep of this collective responsibility thing.” Atrios writes:

Because many of the women are black, and rap is a black thing, and some rappers use the word “ho,” it’s absurd to focus on Don Imus calling these women a bunch of whores without pointing out that other people have used the word ho in other contexts. Or something. I really can’t follow the logic.

*McJoan at Daily Kos says “good for MSNBC for pulling the plug,” and celebrates the fact that “[w]hat had been brushed aside or pooh-poohed as ‘just Imus’s act’ has been revealed for the hate speech that it is.”
