Dems Pass Iraq Bill; Bush Says He’ll Veto It
By Lowell | March 24, 2007
Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed a supplemental spending bill for Iraq that included a timeline for getting out of there. President Bush immediately blasted it, saying that he would “veto it if it comes to my desk.” Here’s some commentary from the progressive blogosphere on this subject:
*Kos lists “Democrats in tough Red districts who voted the right way today,” and says that we should “give props to those who voted the right way despite representing tough districts.”
*Matthew Yglesias writes that “The disappointing-but-still-worth-voting-for Iraq supplemental passed the house.”
*Oliver Willis predicts that “Bush will veto it, which puts it along stem cell research as the two policies this presidency will show some gumption on - keeping this unnecessary war going and stopping research that saves people’s lives.” Willis concludes that “The only way out is a Democratic president.” I agree.
*Taylor Marsh writes:
Bush is determined to walk out of the White House with the Iraq war still in progress. Some how he thinks this means he won’t get blamed for the ultimate failure. He’s wrong.
Marsh also declares this “a win for progressive Democrats, but especially for Speaker Pelosi…” Marsh declares that “This one is for the troops” and that “Congress is back.”
