Bush Invokes “Executive Privilege” on Attorney Firings
By Lowell | March 21, 2007
Here’s some commentary on President Bush’s invocation of “executive privilege” with regard to top aides testifying under oath to Congress on the attorney firings scandal:
*Kagro X on Daily Kos writes:
the resolution of this stand-off will determine the extent to which the Congress is able to investigate everything that’s still on their plate. If they lose this showdown, they lose their leverage in investigating NSA spying, the DeLay/Abramoff-financed Texas redistricting, Cheney’s Energy Task Force, the political manipulation of science, the Plame outing… everything.
*Jane Hamsher at Firedoglake asks “What happens now?” Hamsher adds:
Chuck Schumer is talking tough now. With so much on the line, will he be able to back it up when things get ugly? Because it looks like that’s where we’re headed.
*Pam’s House Blend says that having Miers and Rove testifying privately, but not under oath, is “just about pointless.” Pam adds, “It’s the f*cking living end with these liars and crooks, isn’t it? ”
*Liberal Oasis points out that “one of Dubya’s goals in leaving the door open to go to court is dragging out the process and allowing media attention to wane.”
