Fired Attorneys Scandal Escalates
By Lowell | March 6, 2007
The scandal over the Bush Administration’s firing of several U.S. attorneys, for apparently blatant political reasons, is escalating with threats of retaliation from “[a] high-ranking Justice Department official.” Here’s some commentary from the Democratic blogosphere:
*MissLaura at Daily Kos writes that “[t]his shouldn’t be any suprise, it’s the Bush administration’s M.O., after all.”
*Jonathan Singer at MyDD says that “the scandal surrounding the firing of several United States Attorneys this winter is still growing” and muses on what it should be called (”The Great Prosecutor Purge?”).
*Talking Points Memo concludes that “Anyone who reads even [Rep. Heather] Wilson’s defense knows that she did precisely what Iglesias said she did: muscled a US Attorney to issue an indictment two weeks prior to election day because she believed it would help her save her seat.”
*New Mexico Politics writes, “Trying to pull a rabbit out of her hat on the eve of congressional testimony that could inflict severe damage on her, ABQ GOP Congresswoman Heather Wilson came out from behind her stone wall Monday night, but whether she produced a rabbit or laid an egg is debatable.”
This should all get more interesting today, when one of the fired attorneys, David C. Iglesias, testifies on Capitol Hill. Stay tuned!
