Pentagon to Wounded Veterans: Shut Up!
By Lowell | February 28, 2007
That’s essentially the story reported in today’s Army Times:
Soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center’s Medical Hold Unit say they have been told they will wake up at 6 a.m. every morning and have their rooms ready for inspection at 7 a.m., and that they must not speak to the media.
Lovely, eh? Here’s what our fellow Democratic and progressive bloggers have to say on the subject:
*Booman Tribune writes:
It looks like the Pentagon is determined not to get any more bad press about how they are treating our wounded veterans. I think it would be better if they put the same amount of effort toward making sure there is nothing negative to report.
*Shakespeare’s Sister says, with a touch o’ snark, “I suppose they should be grateful that they weren’t simply sealed into blocks of lucite and taken to that warehouse where the Ark of the Covenant is hidden.”
*Talk Left writes, with a touch o’ sarcasm, “And the next chapter of the Walter Reed scandal, the number of mice in Walter Reed is a “national security secret.”
*The Gun Toting Liberal takes aim and fires, ” Ah, yes… that “free speech in the military” thing rears its ugly head once again, this time, at The Walter Reed facility…”
*The Moderate Voice voices its more-than-moderate outrage, writing of the clampdown, “It has the fetid aroma of a decision to shut up via official intimidation people who’ve helped detail a scandal the Pentagon and administration find embarrassing.”
