Barack Obama Surging Among Blacks?
By Lowell | February 28, 2007
According to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, that appears to be the case. Here are some thoughts from the “blue” blogosphere:
*MyDD says, “the subsample of African-Americans probably was not very large, maybe around 120 people, but even a group with that large of a margin of error can’t account for such an enormous shift.” MyDD adds that if Obama “continues to rise among African-Americans while maintaining his young, progressive, netroots base, it may only be a matter of three or four months before he catches Clinton in national polls.”
*Oliver Willis writes, “Should Obama make it through to the general election, there will be a huge new army of people who want to tell their kids, grandkids, etc. that they voted for the first black president.”
*The Huffington Post points out that “smokers have a much bigger challenge than black or female candidates,” while “29 percent of Americans admit they are less likely to vote for someone simply for being Mormon.”
*Taegan Goddard focuses on the poll results indicating that African Americans have moved increasingly to Obama while white evangelicals have switched allegiances to Rudy Giuliani, who now has a huge lead over John McCain.
*Interestingly, another new poll, this time by CNN, concludes that Barack Obama is “getting a cool reception from Black America.” So who knows. Maybe all these polls are relatively meaningless at this point? At the least, it’s confusing.
