The Hillary-Obama “War of Words” - Does Anyone Care?
By Lowell | February 22, 2007
I really hate to see this, but the 2008 Democratic Presidential contest is getting nasty already. Specifically, it’ s Hillary vs. Obama in a nasty “war of words” over negative remarks made by former Clinton supporter, now Obama backer, David Geffen, about Bill and Hillary Clinton. Needless to say, the Democratic/progressive blogosphere has reacted:
*At MyDD, Matt Stoller says, “…it’s obvious that this is a fight between rich elites and pundits who think the public doesn’t matter and isn’t paying attention.”
*At the Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington blames it on the Clinton camp:
Howard Wolfson, Hillary Clinton’s communications director, is obviously a slow learner. Either that or he’d rather sling mud than get his facts right.
*Over at Calitics, Brian Leubitz writes: “Clinton was in a glass house. I don’t know what they were thinking in attacking Geffen.”
*Raising Kaine, yours truly writes:
This is pointless. This is pitiful. This is the Democratic “circular firing squad” in action once again. This is NOT what the American people care about. This is NOT about the issues. This is stupid.
*Eric Boehlert at Media Matters dissects “Maureen Dowd’s Obama hit piece.”
*Americablog says that “Hillary is Sister Souljah’ing the entire Democratic Party.”
*James Boyce at the Huffington Post says that Wes Clark is “Fighting The War On Iran While Other Democrats Just Fight Each Other.”
*Finally, at Daily Kos, Markos reviews “MoDo’s M.O.” And it ain’t pretty.

[…] But hard-core Dems are taking this spat much too seriously. Obama needs to practice flexing his campaign muscle if he really wants to get past Hillary and - OMG - makes it to the general. The ‘04 campaign saw the Dems do no more than bash Bush in the primary season, throwing out simple barbs at an opponent that most would never face. Hardball is what winners play; and what better sparring partnet than Hillary? […]
