Wednesday Morning Blog Update

By Lowell | February 21, 2007

Some highilghts of today’s Democratic/progressive/liberal blogosphere are:

*Firedoglake covers the “Big Close” of the Scooter Libby trial, reporting Patrick Fitzgerald’s closing summation statement that, “This case is “about someone to whom Wilson’s wife wasn’t a person but an argument.”

*The British are leaving, the British are leaving! Iraq, that is. Read about it on Taylor Marsh, Echidne of the Snakes, Daily Kos, and Down with Tyranny, among others.

*Then we’ve got this crazy story, broken by Think Progress, about that crazy mainstream media slamming the crazy “hateful” blogosphere. The Agonist says that “the bottom line is that the mainstream media is just scared of us.” Susan G at Daily Kos has a great time making snarky, mocking fun of these “real journalists”:

…The nerve! People actually use White House press conferences to form and support political views! And then they write about those views! Where anybody can read and see and respond and argue and fact-check them! And they haven’t been seen – not once! – at a cocktail party in DC. Next thing you know, they’ll start thinking regular old ordinary people have a right to opinions or something.

Raising Kaine adds, “…next thing you know, we might even start expecting the mainstream media (MSM) to ask tough questions and to dig for real information, not just to lazily and uncritically accept whatever scraps are thrown to them by the politicians.”

*Finally, we’ve got the story about Walter Reed Army Medical Center horrors. For more, see Crooks and Liars (John Amato does some original reporting on the issue), Daily Kos, and Americablog, which notes that these problems were “exposed by Salon.com two years ago.”
