Reaction to Hillary Clinton’s New Iraq Line

By Lowell | February 18, 2007

Like several other Democratic 2008 candidates, Hillary Clinton has been struggling with her 2002 vote authorizing the use of force against Iraq. According to the New York Times, Clinton hasn’t wanted to apologize for her vote, believing that such an apology would simply be a gimmick. Now, Senator Clinton has issued a new statement on her Iraq vote:

If the most important thing to any of you is choosing someone who did not cast that vote or has said his vote was a mistake, then there are others to choose from.

Here’s some reaction from the Democratic blogosphere:

*Kos asks “does she really want to argue that her vote wasn’t wrong?” Kos answers, “Apparently so.”

*Oliver Willis argues that Hillary Clinton “cannot have it both ways,” and is “wad[ing] hip deep into John Kerry territory” on this issue.

*Talk Left writes:

Personally, I don’t care about an apology. What I want to know is why she thought a war with Iraq in 2002 made strategic sense, even if the intelligence was not wrong and stovepiped.

*America Blog writes:

Markos on Hillary. It isn’t pretty. He’s written her off, which is exactly what she told him to do. I fail to see how this helps her campaign, especially in the Democratic primary. It’s one thing to make a calculated gamble to write off the “left wing of the party,” but other than Joe Lieberman’s, whose Democratic vote is she angling for?

Rough day on the blogosphere for Hillary Clinton…
