Resignation of Edwards’ Blogger #2

By Lowell | February 14, 2007

Well, that didn’t take long. Just a week after the news that Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwan were staying on board the Edwards campaign, they’re both gone. Marcotte resigned on Monday and McEwan yesterday. Heres’ some reaction to the McEwan resignation from the progressive blogosphere.

*Chris Bowers at MyDD writes that ” Terrorism and the threat of violence against American citizens remains a key political tool for the American right-wing.”

*”liberalamerican” at My Left Wing draws an interesting parallel between this situation and the right-wing reaction to a speech at Paul Wellstone’s funeral.

*Kagro X at Daily Kos believes that “right wing activists have detected in the sheepish silence of the other Democratic presidential campaigns an opportunity to separate yet more top contenders from the herd, and turn Democrats against Democrats.”

*Pamela Leavey at The Democratic Daily writes in outrage, “sadness” and disgust:

I’ve seen enough ugly rants against women in the past few hours from these patriarchal pariahs to last me a lifetime. I’m disgusted. I’m dismayed. And over all, I think this entire mess is a sad statement on the state of the blogosphere and politics in general.

She adds, “There’s something so terribly wrong with this picture… It makes me question why I am here.”

*Echidne of the Snakes writes that “…in the nasty, narrow-minded and hateful sense of certain extremists it is indeed a win for them,” adding that “…this is something that must change.”

*Scott Lemieux at Lawyers, Guns and Money calls McEwan’s resignation “highly regrettable,” adding:

The fact that the misogynist, anti-Semite and all around bigot Bill Donohue continued to go after McEwan–who said nothing that, even under the broadest standards, could qualify as anti-Catholic or anti-religious speech unless we’re to believe that cultural reactionaries can’t be criticized long as their beliefs are motivated by religion–gives away the show about this being a faux-outrage kabuki dance.

*Lane Hudson at The Huffington Post says that “Right-Wing Attacks Put Bloggers’ Lives in Danger,” and calls on Bill Donohue to “immediately rescind his hateful comments against these two young womena and call on the hate mongers…to cease their threats against Amanda, Melissa, and their families.”

There’s lots more at a progressive blog near you. What do you think?
